My Story

12 years, 7 months since her MammoSite treatment.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 41, in February, 2006. Although it is a terrifying disease, it is an extremely common one. Amazingly, 1 in 8 women have breast cancer – I was that one! I was very frightened, but found comfort in family, friends, and other people who have been diagnosed.

After a successful lumpectomy, my doctor and I discussed radiation options. Given my age and the size of the tumor, my doctor recommended MammoSite. He explained how this “targeted” radiation takes less time than regular radiation. He also said the side effects are much less severe because only a small part of my body would have radiation. I had very few side effects, and was able to work through my treatments. It was the right choice for me.

I only endured one 5-DAY TREATMENT and was amazed at how quickly it passed. At that point all I had left was chemotherapy.

Today, I am cancer free and on a preventative chemotherapy until May, 2007.
