I wanted to have the MammoSite radiation instead of six weeks of radiation. It was my first and best choice. My story comes with a warning: METAL SUTURES ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH BALLOONS! The second surgeon who did my next two operations didn't acknowledge my choice and used metal sutures. As a result of this disregard of my radiation preference, my original surgeon had to perform a fourth operation to remove the metal and insert the balloon. I am happy and it's behind me now, but please save yourselves the extra procedures!

My main reason for joining in this choir is to prevent other breast cancer patients from being lead away from balloon radiation. I was adamant from the beginning and still was ignored by the second surgeon. Their reasoning; they promoted the six week schedule.

There is always stress when arranging your life around breast cancer. I'd opt for one week over six any day. My experience included twice a day for five days with very little discomfort and never any pain. I have friends who did the six weeks and they complained about being tired. I did not experience that. I never felt any threat to injury by this treatment and will sing it's praises to any one who will listen. I know that my fourth surgery would not have been necessary had my original intent been followed.
