12 years since her MammoSite treatment.

It is an honor to share my MammoSite experience and personal story with you. Pictured with me is my twin sister, Janet (left). Janet has recently joined the Sister Study, which will help researchers learn how environment and genes affect the chances of getting breast cancer. I'm grateful for her support and contribution. My personal story began with a routine Mammogram in May 2007. After a stereotactic breast biopsy was performed, I was diagnosed with DCIS on June 19, 2007. Three days later, a lumpectomy on my right breast was performed. During my first visit with the Radiation Oncologist, I was told I had a 50/50 chance of being a candidate for the MammoSite radiation treatment. I was given the choice of continuing with the screening process or proceeding with the traditional radiation treatment. I decided to continue with the MammoSite treatment option, and after careful evaluation by an excellent team of doctors, I was approved. My MammoSite treatment began on August 20, 2007, and was completed on August 24, 2007. Twice daily during this week I was embraced by the dedicated, professional, and compassionate staff. I looked forward to every visit, and was grateful for every treatment session I received. I was able to continue working; I had no discomfort, and was only minimally tired in the afternoons. Even the removal of the balloon was painless, and took only seconds. I would absolutely recommend MammoSite to any woman who is a candidate for this treatment.
