My Story

Ida | age 72
Hospice Nurse
Senatobia, MS
10 years, 11 months since her MammoSite treatment.

I am a 62 year-old mother of three and the grandmother of many and until recently, I was enjoying excellent health. But the C_ _ _ _ _ word reared its ugly head. It must have been providence that I discovered a lump in my breast because seemingly, I discovered it by accident. While going up some cement stairs, I tripped over a dog chain and fell on my face and the left side of my body. It was such a hard fall that my manager, who was with me, insisted I go to the emergency room for an evaluation, as was the policy of Mid Delta Home Health & Hospice. Two days later, during a follow up evaluation, I mentioned that I felt a lump in my left breast that recently had begun to hurt. After six x-rays and finally a biopsy, it was discovered I had Intracystic Papillary Carcinoma. Both the doctor and I were stunned with the results of the biopsy. My doctor was only stunned, but I was dumbfounded. My legs shook a little and I was speechless, which is unusual, for I always have something to say. After regaining my wits, Dr. Berry took me to his office and in a gentle manner, informed me of the three different types of cancer and the treatments for each. Dr. Berry also explained the MammoSite treatment to me. What stood out in my mind was that with the MammoSite treatment I could be done with radiation in just five days.

I have seen the American Society of Breast Surgeonís clinical research on the MammoSite treatment and they consider this to be an approved form of radiation treatment.

I was a PERFECT candidate for this form of radiation treatment.

With this treatment, I would avoid the prospect of six to eight weeks of debilitating illness.

With this treatment, I would avoid the loss of my hair, and the loss of my self-esteem.

With this treatment, I would avoid the burning of my skin, surrounding tissues and organs.

With this treatment, I would avoid the loss of time away from my family, work and most importantly, my patients.

With this treatment, I would avoid the well-documented side effects, nausea, vomiting, and body disfiguration.

With the MammoSite treatment, the tumor is targeted, thereby significantly reducing the potential for harming unaffected tissue and organs, and all the aforementioned afflictions.

I thank God, first of all for the treatment of old. The same treatment has saved so many lives. But I have to say I am grateful to God, if I had to have breast cancer, that I had the opportunity to receive MAMMOSITE.
