My Story
My last mammogram was in September 2006, and the report was “No Changes.” (I had had many cysts in the right breast over the years, several cyst aspirations and several ultrasound exams – all said to be benign.)
In early December 2006 (after a hip replacement on November 21, 2006,) I felt a “hard’ mass in the right breast. I had a mammogram, ultrasound and breast biopsy on January 9, 2007; saw Dr. Tate on January 17, 2007 and had a lumpectomy on January 24, 2007. The final diagnosis was ductal cancer, no lymph node involvement, margins clear and with well-differentiated cells – estrogen receptive. I received my MammoSite on February 2, 2007 and completed radiation on February 9, 2007 and the MammoSite was removed.
There was slight discomfort with both placement and removal of the MammoSite but not even close to being as bad as I anticipated, and the radiation was completely pain-free. I have had some skin sensitivity since, but now (2 weeks after removal,) that is mostly gone.
