After years of having breast cysts removed, I was given the news on Dec. 26 at a repeat mammogram that I had breast cancer. The weeks that followed were a whirlwind. Doctor appointments, treatment options, and personal confusion had become my way of life. As a realtor and mortgage broker I needed desperately to get back into life as soon as possible. The radiation oncologist presented my options and that's when I first heard about MammoSite. I did my research and was most excited that MammoSite was an option for me. Imagine, doing in 5 days, what normally would take 7 weeks. Every good story has a cliffhanger, and mine is no different. The end of the day prior to the start of my treatment, I received a phone call that my insurance company had decided NOT to cover the MammoSite therapy. My mind was already made up, and for a cancer patient, a plan is very important. I decided to continue on as planned with the MammoSite therapy, and fight the insurance company later. My MammoSite placement was perfect, and my radiation went exactly as planned. Although I continue appeals with the insurance company, I know I made the best decision for my health, and would do it exactly the same again.
