My Story
When I was first told by my surgeon the radiation treatment would be for a total of six weeks, I was speechless (that’s not me at all). She encouraged me to seek an Oncologist to review the options supporting my action toward a spending battle & recovering. Once I spoke to my radiation oncologist, he educated me on the MammoSite treatment. He mentioned the treatment would be twice a day for 5 days…well, this was what encouraged me to speak to my surgeon about this type of radiation treatment. I told her what the oncologist told me about the MammoSite treatment. This new technique to fight breast cancer was encouraging for me in my life. I felt it was going to give me a better chance that it will never come back into the area in which it was removed.
The fact that I would be done with the radiation part of my treatment in five days was key for me (Fatigue & Stress Free) this would allow me to start chemo in a better situation (Healthy & Strong). I was going to get a big jump into the healing process of my life, no doubt about that.
Cancer is never a good word, NEVER but with everyday I feel I am blessed to come across these doctors who are part of the “new wave technology” in the fight for life. I was back to work after 4 months (Radiation & Chemo). If I had gone with the six-week plan of radiation, I would have been off of work another 2 months or more. I pray my daughter never has to go through what I did, but if she does…we will always be open to the “newest” technology to fight and beat this deadly disease.
Back to a normal life with my loving family and friends is what I wanted, that is why MammoSite was the right choice for me.
